Book Leaf Banner (Plus A Giveaway)Updated

I posted this image this morning on Instagram

Leaf bannerI was mid-project when I snapped it, and because I am a bit of an Instgram junkie I couldn’t help but share it. It turns out I am much more of a visual person than I ever knew.

After sharing that image, and then this one

leaf banner2A couple of friends asked me to share the tutorial.

If you’ve been reading my blog for the last 3 years one thing you already know is that I am not a craft blogger. I typically stink at crafts, so I am comfortable with not trying to become a DIY blogger.

This post here is a rarity, so if you’re not into crafts at all, hang with me and don’t unsubscribe just yet–I promise, I am not going there--often

banner supplies

Here’s what you’ll need to make this ridiculously easy and super festive leaf banner:

  • Leaves (we collected real leaves last night at the park, but fake would probably work just as well)
  • Mod Podge glue (matte or glossy finish, I used matte because that’s what I had)
  • Discarded book
  • Jute twine
  • Paintbrush for the glue
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors

Tear a handful of pages out of the discarded book. (as many as you want your banner long, or for as many leaves as you have)

Cut a triangle out of the bottom of each page (see image above)

Glue a leaf to each page by applying glue to the back of the leaf. Once the leaf has been placed on the page, apply glue to the front of it as well. (Mod Podge dries clear, so don’t freak out.)

Set each glues leaf page aside until the glue dries.

After the glue has dried, punch two holes in the top of each leaf page.

Unwind a bit of jute twine from your roll and start stringing those pages. I did not cut my twine from the roll until I had placed all of my pages on, since I didn’t know how long it would be. If you’re into measuring things (which I’m clearly not) then you can measure your pages and twine ahead of time, honestly–that just takes too long.

      1. Oh please. I’m the dork who asked you to post last week and then never responded to your email till the day I wanted the post to go live. Absolutely no worries. You’ve got 31 posts on your hands this month! I totally understand. I know you’ll get me the questions. I know we’ll have fun with them. (And I would never send you packing for being slow. I move like molasses.)

This is JUST ADORABLE!! So creative…even I could do it…and I am SO non-crafty too! But winning it would be even MORE fun…would love to have Kris’ Ohio leaves gracing my home during my favorite season!

    Love you!

  2. Karie Ritter

Miss the VA falls! We are in Las Vegas, and the first seasonal changes, or lack of them were hard. (7y now) The hardest to get used to has been people putting Christmas lights on palm trees. But God has given us a love for this desert town.
