We sure know how to make a mess of life don’t we?
Kasey Van Norman has lived through her share of messy seasons. Her book, Named by God: Overcoming Your Past, Transforming Your Present, Embracing Your Future we find her story of coming through the muck of sin-filled days from her past, and overcoming through the transforming, forgiveness of Christ.
Kasey’s book presents some of her story of finding redemption in a ‘self-help’ kind of way. I thought this book was going to be more of a biography but instead discovered something more therapeutic. There’s lots of scripture intermingling with her own personal history here, which is both encouraging and grounding for this piece of work.
I have to admit I had a hard time getting through this book. In parts it felt long and in some places her honesty is raw and very real and then in others it feels like she stops short of sharing the full scope of things. I respect and understand the need to withhold certain details, but in a couple of parts, I felt it was almost unfair to the reader to stop short of giving the full story. Regardless of this, there is encouragement to be found within the pages of ths book.
If you’re looking for some encouragement on how to get beyond the messy life you’ve lived so far, you will find a kindred spirit in Kasey.
